It depends on your perspective. If you are a local and see the establishments from that perspective the price, the food, the service have different meaning than if you are traveling for business (with an expense account) or a tourist (for one visit) to record a memory. I used to work fine dining in financial district and nothing made guests happier than seeing the manager at the front AT LUNCH TIME with suit but no tie. They spent all day surrounded by stuffy suits and this was casual to them and they loved it. Think of casual as a style not a price range. And if MM is doing his thing right as he should his target market is not a hip local thrifty plus hanging out on week nights. Every person that attends a convention here for several days goes out for dinner and they all wear suits in full uniform. RN74 is casual for their target market. And this is the last time, I defend fine dining. They will do fine on their own and the locals will whine forever. No point to being rational about it.
RN74: Can The Mina Group Do Casual?

RN74: A wine bar or a fine-dining restaurant?

I've been thinking about RN74 since my dinner there last week (full disclosure: I went on a "media night" and was treated to dinner). It's no surprise that fine dining restaurants are on the decline here in San Francisco—this has never really struck me as a white tablecloth town, and with the economy being in the tank the demise of all but the best of the "fancy" restaurants seems inevitable. So when I heard that the Mina (as in Michael) Group was opening a more casual wine bar-inspired spot, I took notice.
